Summer 2019 - a.k.a. Catch Up for Kent

Image
Okay, so you know about my New Zealand trip and my ongoing coffee obsession, but now that I am off G+ and Facebook, has my daily life stopped? Nope. Work The most straight forward part of my life is work. At least I feel that it has the fewest subheadings ;) I continue to work part-time at the library . Mostly, I am based out of the JS Wood Branch, but I find myself doing story times or special projects all around Saskatoon’s nine public branches. Much of my time is spent doing preparation and training for some of our newer programming staff and the rest is working with the public as a facilitator for paint nights, story times, robotics interactions, etc... I am currently working on a couple of special shows. One for the Remai Modern. I am doing a puppet show for them in September and the following week I am doing a workshop on shadow puppetry for teens. Another is for the Festival of Trees . The library will provide feature storytelling and puppetry at the end of the ...

Coffee Quest -- Part 1

Image
Fair Warning. This blog post, while it is about life's most delicious beverage, will be handwritten and published as JPEGs. Also, I'm still (and increasingly) angry with Google and Blogger, but I'm still here... for the time being. This Post represents about 3 months of coffee testing--from November 13th, 2018 to February 15th, 2019. The project is only partially completed, but I wanted to be able to share it with you right now. Perhaps you will benefit from our tasting experience.

1001 Albums Project

Image
My winter walks provide plenty of time for music listening... If you recall , I started my 1001 Albums project last year, in March. It is inspired by a reading of 1001 Albums you Must Read Before You Die . At the time, I was only 30 albums along. I can recall thinking that I might finish within a year (if I went all out). That didn't work out. I was on track, but I completely stalled out once summer was over. I have not done an exact count, but the lists below (which I finished in early September) comprise about 470 albums totaling approximately 350 hours of music. Find it. Listen to it. As you may imagine, it has been an intense and wonderful experience. Having something to share with my teenagers is enough all by itself, and it has been so much more than that. I sent Leora playlist #10 this week. Even though we text a few times a week and talk most weekends, it has been hard having her away at Mt. Allison. You may recall some of my emotional state . The 1001 albums pro...

High School Musical

Leora and Anwyn were recently in a production of... I think it was "Ursula and the Eels." Of course, as a proud father, I wanted to take photos of my beautiful children. Then my children said, "could you take some pictures of the other cast members, for Facebook... and the year book?" Flattered, how could I say no? Then they revealed that there were more than 100 teenagers in two separate casts and that they were in their starring roles on opposing nights :( So, Wendy and I had to go twice (fortunately it was pretty good for a high school musical) and wound up with about 1400 photos of the show. The girls and I managed to narrow that down to just 400 and my favourites amount to 116. Still too many to expect you to peruse. I thought that maybe in Blog form, I could show off just few enough that I won't drive you all away ;) Flotsam and Jetsam  The first night we saw was Anwyn's big night. She played Jetsam, one of the two pesky electric eels (loved th...

New York (Days 4, 5, 6)

Our Room... "Bright but Messy" Just like Me ;) Many of you know the reason Leora and I are in New York. But, for the benefit of those I don't talk to regularly, Let me 'splain…No, there is too much. Let me sum up. Buttercup is marry' Humperdinck in a little less-- Sorry, got carried away there... Wendy and I take our job of parenting very seriously and have always done everything we can to make sure the girls are prepared for life (as much as possible). I think we have covered the basics, but one of the things we decided we could do a few years back was to give them a sense of the world they are in. We want them to make informed decisions about who, where and what they will be and it seems like that would be more easily achieved with context. So, we promised each of the girls a high school trip anywhere in the world with their dad. There is garbage and scaffolding everywhere. Both seem permanent Whether such a scheme is up to the job of providing con...
